10 Things 2017 Thought Me

2017 has been a tough year, but it was heck of an advenuture. I am writing this entry on the 1st day of 2018 and currently enjoying the cold December breeze reminding me that you just survived a tough 365 days of 2017, and this year, this is a time for you to get up my mat and walk!

  1. Fail repeatedly - I can still remember the first time I learned how to bike. I fell several times, had bruises and wounds before I had my first 5 pedals balancing on my own. Although the experience was darn painful, I learned how to ride a bike. 2017 I experienced failures (like what I shared in my other post), before i used to deny it and blame it to someone else, but that attitude would only give me another failure. Not realizing my own mistakes would just give me more misery and will not get me out of my suffering. Failing repeatedly means you should face your mistakes and make solutions to correct it. If you fail on your first attempt, try again, if it doesn’t work, then try and look for alternative solutions. Never give up, Michael Jordan missed several hoops before he become a legend
  2. Never assume - I was comsumed by negative thoughts and before I made some actions, I don’t have energy anymore. Our mind is designed to interpret things, but it is not perfect. We interpret things based on what we see or our intuitions, but unfortunately, it is not 100% accurate. If we think something is wrong, then analyze the problem, then take steps to resolve it. Rather than making assumptions which is consuming energy.
  3. You don’t need drama - Self-pity or thinking you are a lesser person is bulls##t, people may put you down, may use you, or may say bad things behind your back. Be grateful of your friends who keeps you up, but be more grateful to the people who smash you down, imagine how a ball bounce when you hardly throw them on the ground, it bounced up higher. They are the reason why you bounce higher, therefore you should be thankful for them.
  4. Count your blessings - Never, I repeat, never make a bad experience blinded you with the tons of blessings that God is giving you everyday. Be thankful for the food you eat, for the work you have, and for the family and friends around you. Be thankful for the financial blessings, the house you have. You have to be thankful even the littlest or the craziest things you have. No matter what situation you are into right now, you are still blessed.
  5. Dude you have friends - God gave us a gift of friendship, when Jesus is starting with his Ministry, he got his 12 man squad to help him. They travelled together, they ate together. It helps that you go out and talk to your friends once in a while, they are given to you by God to listen to you, give you advice or simply cheers you up
  6. You deserve Peace - I learned that I needed to be alone once in a while. A time for myself to enjoy things I love (like reading) or exploring new things (going to a museum). I also go to a coffee shop reflecting and planning my next move.
  7. Never stop learning - You may find time reading the dramas in Facebook, but it may be worth of your time reading articles shared in your linked in account. You may find articles on how you can be more productive in the office or how to work smarter. You may also want to invest in inspirational or motivational books. If you don’t want to shell out any money, you can subscribe on Ted in YouTube.
  8. Faith - I’ve learned to focus on the things I can control and pray for the things I can’t. God has better plans for me, I know whatever he took away from me from 2017, those are the things I don’t need hence, I trust that he is preparing me for something better.
  9. To fight - I may have lists of regrets from last year, yes I let them go. But I will bring with me all the learnings from it. For 2018, I will fight for my career, I will fight for my finances, I will fight for me to have a good health. (Note: journey with me this 2018, strategize and execute my fight plan)
  10. To Love more - i’ve learned to pray for the people who offended me, not to pray that something bad would happened to them but for God to keep them blessed and away from evil and harm. I pray for my friends who was with me during my hardest time. I also pray for my family who are the source of my strength.

I am very thankful to all the experiences I had for 2017. It made me a strong person. As we enter 2018, I want to leave this Bible verse from Ecclesiastes 3:2-3 A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted. A time to kill and a time to heal; A time to tear down and a time to build up.…

Let’s welcome 2018 with Love, Joy and hope.

We All Have Our Own Battles

Last night I had a chance to attend a praise night by our Catholic community CFC- Singles for Christ. There are few members of our community who shared and testified how their battles they had to go through  One girl testified about her painful experience while serving the Lord. She was a faithful servant, she serves as a member of music ministry and she always say yes to all the service.  http://www.joycejevans.com/archives/16 But her faithfulness to the Lord was tested when their family face some trials. Her mom got sick and eventually died after 8 years of battling with kidney disease. She was also fired 3 times and had to file a case against her employer. To top it off, her dad who was working abroad had an accident. She was helpless, and like most of us, question God and his will.  Since she was left with nothing plus a 6 digits debt. She just prayed to the Lord and surrendered everything to him. She let “God be God”  F...

Scared?

I like horror movies, I love the thrill of getting scared especially when the story would play in your mind, as if there is someone beside you when you are alone. But what scares me the most, not the ghost or the unknown element around us, but the monthly bills inside the envelope, or a phone call from the credit card collection company.                 I have done some research and found out some of that many people have gone through debt traps just like me, hence, the moment that they’ve discovered that they need to do something. There are many solutions out there that can resolve the debt problem, here are some: Plan – Before your pay day, plan where your money goes. List down all your bills and allocate your earnings to the things you need ex: Savings, food, transportation allowance, insurance, amortization etc...
